From humble beginnings in Kansas in 1902, an American icon was born, Buck Knives. Hoyt Buck began by serving the needs of farmers for sharp, long-lasting implements on the prairie.
The original Buck knives were fashioned from old file blades. For some period of time thereafter, Buck produced knives on a sporadic basis. In 1941 in an effort to help our soldiers in WWII, Hoyt Buck again took up producing high-quality, fixed blade knives.
In 1946 with the war over, Hoyt and his son Al Buck began building knives in a lean-to on Al's garage. Later in 1947 Al joined his father on a full-time basis. Production at the time was about 25 hand-made, heat tempered knives a week.
In 1961 Buck moved it's knife manufacturing to a 3200 square foot facility in San Diego and made 6 models of hunting knives from 440C stainless steel. Gone were the used files. Knives at this time sold for around $2 while Buck knives commanded $15-20.
In 1967 Al went cross-country selling knives in hardware stores, sport shops, and other stores to create the vast Buck dealer network. In 1970 Al's son, Chuck, emerged as a leader and visionary that would later lead Buck knives.
During the '80s another facility was added in San Diego and Buck knives continued their rise to prominence. Helping to solidify the legend of Buck Knives was the iconic 110 Folding hunter as well as Buck's 4-ever warranty.
In July 2005 Buck Knives moved to Post Falls, Idaha where the company remains. If you are looking for a great knife that will last no further than a Buck Knife. |
